OFFICE HOURS We are a New York City-based company open Monday-Friday from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. On occasion, the office is open Saturday morning. Manhattan Getaways can be reached at all times through its Web site, which is accessed by staff members during and after work hours. Telephone is (USA) 212-956-2010. Email contact is judith(at)manhattangetaways(dot)com.
RESERVATIONS
Should I submit the Request form or
call the office? The form works best since it streamlines your request. We try to match your answers with what appears available in our database. An email will be sent to you that includes photos, descriptions and prices of our New York City private apartments and furnished rooms. Phoning the office also works, especially if we haven't returned your email, but we can't devote as much time to phone requests as we do to email.
Should I reserve well
in advance? Do you accept last-minute reservations? Due to the high demand for New York City furnished rooms and private apartments, several months in advance works best for a wider selection. Too far in advance, such as six months, and the reservation might not hold if the host sells the apartment or removes it from our listings. We rarely accept same-day reservations.
PAYMENT
Do you accept credit cards, checks and/or cash? Is your online processing secure?
We accept most major credit cards. We do not accept cash. A check is acceptable but it must clear before the accommodation is occupied. We also work with wire transfers. We process credit cards online using authorize.net as the secured gateway.
Do you accept a deposit or require full payment? We take a deposit by credit card when the reservation is made. The balance due is paid directly to the host upon arrival. If the host requests full payment before arrival, Manhattan Getaways will charge the guest's card and pay the host directly. The card also guarantees for documented damages, utilities when applicable and a $25 lost-key fee.
Are there other fees or commissions when reserving?
Except for a nominal company service fee, there are no additional fees or commissions.
CANCELLATION
What happens if I cancel? There is a $50 cancellation fee in addition to a per-day fee depending upon when the cancellation is made. The cancellation policy is clearly stated on the credit card authorization form.
We kindly request that you not reserve with the intention of looking around for something else in New York City and then cancel your Manhattan Getaways reservation. Our hosts depend upon your integrity to keep a valid reservation.
GENERAL INFORMATION
Do you have photographs of the accommodations?
Yes. We have photographs for all our New York City furnished rooms and private apartments. We email a photo link(s) to all prospective guests once we receive a completed request form that is on Manhattan Getaways'Web site.
Are your accommodations
safe and clean? Yes. It's bad for business to put guests in unsafe areas, dirty apartments and with unpleasant hosts. New York City is one of the safest large cities in America but we don't represent apartments in fringe areas.
What background does
Manhattan Getaways have to choose their accommodations? The company is owned and operated by Judith Glynn. She has been in the rental industry for over 16 years; first as a hostess of a private apartment and later as an agency owner. She visits all the apartments, takes the photographs and spends considerable time with each host to offer a very personalized service to them and to the guests.
Judith is assisted by her daughter, Lesley Skeffington. She lives in Rhode Island, is a stay-at-home mom, answers the email overflow and some phone calls.
Manhattan Getaways is a State of New York corporation and has an impeccable record with credit card companies. The company is recommended in most national New York City travel guides such as "The New York Times Guide to New York City," "Fodors," "Frommers" and has received numerous mentions in the travel magazine and newspaper press; Conde Nast Traveler/U.K. and Newsweek's "The Tip Sheet." The company is also highly recommended on Frommer's travel Web site.
